E&T

Field

Energy & Transportation covers power generation, rail, marine, oil and gas, and industrial and on-highway engines, together with the aftermarket that supports them.

Our recruiters and moderators work in the technical language of the sector. That matters when the respondent is a product support supervisor, a fleet maintenance manager or a plant engineer rather than a marketing contact.

Applications and equipment

  • Rail: diesel and diesel-electric locomotives, mine and works locomotives, maintenance-of-way equipment, metro and subway fleets, and rail-served inspection and access equipment
  • Power generation: diesel and gas gensets, standby and prime power, critical facility and data centre power
  • Marine: commercial propulsion and auxiliary power, workboats and ferries
  • Oil and gas: gas compression, drilling and well service equipment
  • Industrial and on-highway engines: engine and drivetrain integration into third-party equipment, including power modules and transmissions, and engine-driven industrial equipment such as compressors, chippers and grinders
  • Energy transition: electrification, hybrid systems, alternative fuels and connected equipment

Before the purchase

Early-stage questions decide the specification: which engine and components go into the package, where those components are made and how much country of origin matters to the buyer, total cost of ownership expectations, and how requirements differ across segments, from data centre standby power to rental fleets to municipal operators.

After the sale

Much of our work in this sector concerns what happens after the sale: warranty administration, registration and extended coverage, scheduled maintenance, repair, rebuild and overhaul, parts availability, equipment service agreements, and connected services including condition monitoring and fleet management platforms.

Respondents

  • Engine and equipment manufacturers: engineering, supply chain, and commercial
  • Packagers and integrators: genset packagers and OEMs installing third-party engines
  • Dealers and distributors: sales, service and parts management
  • Independent service and repair providers, including workshops and rebuild shops
  • End users and fleet operators: maintenance decision makers, operations and procurement
  • Specifying and consulting engineers

Geography

Research programs have been fielded across North and South America, Europe including Eastern Europe, the Middle East, South and South-East Asia, China and Australia, in local language, in person or remote. Multi-country studies are our normal approach, and we have designed programs intended to scale to seventeen markets from a three-country pilot.
